SNOW in Athens?!?! pictures!

Apparently, I brought a little bit of Michigan with me to Greece this past weekend...

In the pics, note that I went to two different churches on Sunday looking to attend liturgy, and services at both churches were canceled due to the snow, and the fact that the Greeks don't know how to handle it! Also in the pics, note the crazy guy who playing in the snow covered bushes.... very weird, goofy guy! haha...

Yes we do get our dose of snow in Athens every 3-4 years.
Athens and Attika belong to Greece's sea-effect snowbelts.. along with east Thessaly, Euboia, East Continental Greece, East Peloponnese, Cyclades and Northern Crete..
Seriously we frequently (5-10 times per year) get a strong northeast wind from Russia to pick up moisture from relatively warm Aegean and dumb it as snow.
Euboia which is the first place downwind can pick meters of snow (like Buffalo, NY)..
After Euboia are Parnitha and Penteli mountains and then and only then sea-effect snow will reach downtown Athens..(once every 3-4 years). The northeastern suburbs (Kifisia and such) get this more and more often.
